Jocelyn and Manuel got married in California, where they live, and the next day they got on a plane that took them to Italy for their honeymoon. They started their trip from Milan since Jocelyn was looking forward to make Manuel discover both the most touristic places and some hidden gems of this city, as a real insider, as she used to live there for some months during the university period. She is a photographer too, so she wrote me that she was looking for a photographer in Milan as she would have loved to stay on the other side of the camera for an honeymoon photo shoot in this place that is so dear to her.
The city is so poetic in the early morning and its awakening has always given me so much inspiration since the days when lived there as I was used to wake up early to go out for a walk just to enjoy the beauty of Milan at sunrise. In addition, if you would like to do a photo shoot in the center without too many people around and take advantage of a soft and warm light, this is absolutely the best time of the day.
The sun in autumn rises just behind Palazzo Reale, to the right of the Dome, so I scheduled my meeting with Jocelyn and Manuel in Piazza del Duomo a few minutes before dawn and from there we started our tour. It was a rainy day, but we did not lose our hearts, agreeing that the scenario was very Milanese. Umbrellas, bikes and trams sped in the frenzy of the morning … but no hurry for us. We had a walk around the central streets, a breakfast with cappuccino at California Bakery (a small tribute to the origins of J & M) and finally a visit to the cloister of Santa Maria near San Celso, which is right next to the apartment where Jocelyn lived during her Italian period.
The spirit with which this couple has faced the rain has been super. I check the weather forecast every twenty minutes before a photo shoot and when I can, I try to reschedule it, but in this case it was not possible because their stay in Milan was really short. However, that morning I met them smiling in their fall outfits and from that moment on the weather stopped being a problem to me: seeing them happy and in love was all I needed to tell this little bit of their story.
These are their words (thank you very much, Jocelyn and Manuel!).
Marta, you were amazing and we couldn’t be happier with our photos!! Seriously, they are some of our favorite photos of us, and all of our friends are raving about them too! In addition to being a super talented photographer, you were also so fun and easy to work with. You were really enthusiastic and friendly throughout the shoot and more than happy to work with us to create an artistic vision that we both ended up loving! Grazie mille, Marta!
