Spring has arrived on Lake Maggiore, villas and gardens have reopened their doors to tourists and for me the photo shoots season has started at full speed. One of the many reasons why I love living at the lake is that in spring the nature is tinged with a thousand colors, surprising me every year with its spectacular camellias and magnolias blooms, my absolute favorite.
And so, when Avigail, that was traveling from the USA together with her family, asked me to recommend a special place for a family photo session, I immediately thought of one of the Borromean Islands in Stresa, one of the undisputed treasures of this area. They re-open every year at the end of March and are a real Eden on earth made of well-kept gardens, surprising blooms, peacocks with free exit and charming architectural details. The islands are three: Isola Madre, Isola Pescatori and Isola Bella. They are very different from each other, but they share the same taste and class from which the Borromeo family imprint clearly emerges. We chose Isola Bella because, among many others, I liked the idea of photographing the children inside the maze made of box hedges… and it perfectly worked, they had a lot of fun and gave me the opportunities to portray them in their tremendous tenderness.
I love family photo shoots! Photographing the little ones makes me come back child: I enjoy chasing them along the paths, leaving them free to be just kids. I freeze time and take my best photos capturing them in their moments of true joy, even if I end up running a lot because… how can toddlers be that fast? But this keeps me very fit, so it ends up being definitely a plus!
